CELEBRATING FRIENDSHIP THIS VALENTINES!

Updated: Feb 2, 2019

I think friendship is such a great theme for the month of February along with Valentine's Day. Kids absolutely love to write letters and get mail. You can either make a large classroom mailbox, or individual ones for each student. Not only does it inspire children to write, but it also builds self esteem.

BOOKS: Post office

1. My, hands down, favorite book to introduce letter writing is "The Jolly Postman",

Each Fairy tale story includes an envelope pocket with a letter. Goldilock's writes an apology note to the Three Bears for example.

The Three Bears, in turn, invite Goldilock's to Little Bear's birthday party.

"Frog and Toad Together" has several sweet and funny stories about friendship as well as one about a letter. Toad was lamenting about never receiving mail, and his good friend Frog mails him one. They then wait patiently for Snail to deliver it.

This is a delightful product called Post Office Dramatic Play Center from Teachers Pay Teachers.

SONGS:

1. Friendship Soup by Ned Shows (youtube).

2. Small Talk (Friendship) CBS Kids (youtube).

3. What is a Friend? by watchknowlearn.org.

POETRY:

A Rainbow of Friends

A rainbow of friends

is a dream we can share

Where everyone's treated

with kindness and care.

P. K. Hallrian

TREAT:

Friendship salad; each child brings in a piece of fruit. I usually try to have a extra parent there to cut up the fruit. Then, I add marshmallows and whipped cream.

Blessings to all my wonderful Pinterest friends,
