HOW REDEFINING CREATIVITY BOOSTS EXPRESSION IN BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN

Half the battle is helping kids and adults understand what it really means to be creative or to be a creative thinker. To put it in a nutshell, it is not always having something to do with a paintbrush or writing a novel.

According to an article in Success, " we need to redefine the meaning of creativity," and to tap into our creative side, we need to "explore the things that bring us JOY." All of us have our own means of self-expression. Right now, I am having a blast designing infographics for children and for teachers to use in the classroom. This is my latest creative outlet. On the other side of the coin, I am also constantly redesigning and organizing my workspace to accommodate all that I need for social media, illustration, and writing. I also consider this creative thinking!

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

We need to inspire creative thinkers to excel in the 21st century. As stated in Teaching Expertise "In today's culture of innovation, design and creative thinking practices aren't just for folks in a design career! Mindsets of design thinking are needed in every field. I think that is why STEM and STEAM lessons have exploded throughout the schools, to encourage creative thinking in other areas such as math, science and technology. HOW CAN WE CHANGE OUR THINKING?

Finding a creative outlet is so vital to wellbeing in general. So think about what brings you great joy, since it is not one size fits all! It may be:

  • experimenting with a recipe

  • making changes to a sewing pattern

  • designing a butterfly garden

  • inventing a new game (WORDLE)

  • tinkering in a woodshop

  • joining a drama club

  • solving an engineering problem

  • making a zoo out of lego blocks

THE WORLD IS YOUR CREATIVE OYSTER! As I said, I love to design in Canva and found this in www.canva.com 19 Easy Classroom Ideas to Spark Creativity. I have also included this downloadable infographic with creative thinking ideas to use as a visual in the classroom or for parents. ENJOY!
