My two great passions are teaching children to read and to have a love of art. I believe that this not only helps children to be well rounded but to also be good decision makers, a necessary skill this day and age. I try to make these lessons SUPER SIMPLE to inspire teachers to fit it in to their already busy day or to help home school parents or parents introduce these concepts at home.
LESSON: One of the very first art concepts that I introduce is the concept of primary colors. PRIMARY COLORS: Red, yellow and blue are the source of all secondary colors which are orange green and violet. Kids are fascinated with this concept and have fun making these primary color pictures.
HOW: Have children trace different sized overlapping circles with only primary colors (I made poster board tracers that I also used for other projects).
HOW: Have children draw a picture of anything they want using primary colors.
HOW: Have children use tracing circles to make red, yellow and blue caterpillar.
HOW: Since Piet Mondrian created abstract paintings using mostly primary colors, his art would be an excellent example to introduce to all the children, and a project that older children also love to make.
REMINDER: If this is helpful, be sure to pin it to refer to later and look for my next lesson, MIXING COLORS!
